Power to the People Program

powertothepeople-233x300.jpg

We care about our community, and want to do our part in bridging the gap of wealth disparity in our city. We feel all people in our city should have access to clean energy protecting them against the ever-rising cost of Pepco electricity.

So for every system sold, Solar Solution will install 1 solar panel for free to low-income households in D.C.

Solar Solution began this program in 2015 under no official title. Over the past 5 years we have installed 2,883 solar panels on 145 low income households at zero cost, providing a total of $116,000 of free electricity to these homeowners every year. Under this program the systems installed will be under a $0.00 cent Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) which means that the panels are owned, operated, maintained and insured by Solar Solution. Solar Solution would retain the Federal Tax Credit and Solar Renewable Energy Certificate's (SREC's) associated with the system.

This program is only available to D.C. home owners.

This program differs from the D.C. government funded program Solar-for-All from the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE).

To be eligible, residents must meet the income guidelines below or already participate in the following programs:

  • Pepco's Residential Aid Discount (RAD)

  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
